syllable structure

Describe the syllable structure and illustrate with examples

(Onset) <--- Syllable ----> Rhyme --Peak --- (Coda)
/b/ /bc:t/ /c:t/ /c:/ /t/

Define rhyme
consists of the vowel and the consonant following it

Define onset
any consonant preceding the vowel
eg : eat - /i:t/
there can be an optional onset but no syllable can have an empty rhyme

Further break down of the rhyme

Define peak
consists of the vowel

define coda
consists of consonants following the peak
eg : high /hai/ (missing coda)
key /ki:/ (missing coda)
Again, there can be missing coda but cannot have empty peak.
