What r the different ways the -ed suffix can be pronounced?
The -ed suffix can be pronounced in 3 different ways, depending on what occurs before the suffix.
Method 1 - use /id/
the use of /id/ are for words ending with /t/ or /d/
for eg: wait /weit/
waited / weitid/
Method 2 - use /d/
the use of /d/ are for words ending with a voiced sound (besides /d/)
voiced sounds - /r/ /l/ /w/ /j/ /b/ /z/ /g/ /n/ /m/ /v/
for eg : pain /pein/
pained /peind/
Method 3- use /t/
the use of /t/ are for words ending with a voiceless souns (besides /t/)
voiceless sounds - /s/ /p/ /t/ /k/ /tf/ /f/
for eg : bake /beik/
baked /beikt/
