Explain the concept of Language of Speech vs Writing , illustrating differences with examples

Language of speech vs writing is yet another source of variation.

The differences of speech and writing can be seen in 3 main perspectives

1) grammatical and text structure
- writing has a higher lexical density ( amount of words carrying content) in comparison to speech.

2) uses and context
-speech is used in day to day interaction and to get things done immediately.
- writing is used in more permanence communication and is used in giving instructions and for recording purposes.

3) degree of formality
-speech is more spontaneous than writing even in formal situations.
-speech is more prone to mistakes like false starts, tongue slips, hesitation phenomena while for writing, writer can rewrite many drafts. thus, writing less prone to mistakes
