-languages or varieties of languages that a community can understand and communicate with

Definition of Code mixing
- the use of more than 1 language in a single utterance.
- Borrowing or transferring of linguistic items tend to remain at the similar word class.

Occurs when the speaker has 2/more languages or varieties of language at his disposal

Eg:
-adjective of another language may be borrowed into asentence where its word class remains as adjective.

i am very sian of her ways.

the adjective sian which is borrowed, replaces the item in the adjectival position. At the same time, there is no change in the word class of the adjective sian.
