Definition of code
-any kind of system of signal which allows 2 or more people to communicate
-all the language and the varieties of language that a community can communicate with

-choosing the appropriate code for the right selection

Code selection occurs when user has 2 or more languages/ varieties of languages that are at his disposal

Eg:
a child selects English to speak to his Maths teacher in class although he is bilingual as english is the medium of instruction in school
-however, the child will also speak mother tongue to his mother tongue teacher in class
- the child can also select English over chinese to communicate to his group members in class.
